What You Should Know About Samsung One UI version 3.5

Everything About Samsung One UI 3.5 – Features, Release Date, and Eligible Devices

One UI, Samsung’s custom UI for Galaxy devices, gets a few version upgrades every year. There is the main update that comes with every new version of Android that introduces the various design and UX changes as well as new software features. Two minor version updates accompany Samsung’s new flagship devices in the first and second half of the year.

One UI 3.5 is the next minor update Samsung is preparing to launch two new foldable smartphones for the second half of 2021 and a Fan Edition variant of the Galaxy S21. One UI 3.5 will likely be installed on these devices right away if history is a guide (One UI) 2.5 was introduced with Samsung’s flagship devices launched in the second half of 2020, while One UI 1.5 is a ride in flagship systems, which introduced in the second half of 2019.

One UI 3.5 Design and Improvements

One UI 3.5 is not expected to bring any changes to the UI as these are reserved for major One UI updates (the next big one is One UI 4.0 with Android 12). With One UI 3.5 still a few months away, it cannot be said with certainty whether Samsung will stick to its usual routine.

One UI 3.5 features

What new features One UI 3.5 will introduce is another mystery at this point. However, expect many new camera features to be part of the package, as is the norm. These camera features will be rolled out on the new flagship phones (the Galaxy Z Fold 3, the Galaxy Z Flip 3, and the Galaxy S21 FE; for those wondering, there won’t be a new Note coming this year) and later on, existing Galaxy flagships like the Galaxy S21 series will be available. Some of them may also find their way to medium-range budget phones.

We can also expect Samsung to further expand its partnership with Google and potentially pre-install more of its apps on devices running One UI 3.5. For example, a user interface 3.1 introduced support for Google Discover on the home screen and made Google Messages the default text messaging app. If Samsung switches from Tizen to Wear OS for its next smartwatch, could the Wear OS app be one of the new Google apps to install right away? We have to wait.

One UI 3.5 Release Date

As previously mentioned, One UI 3.5 is expected to be available with Samsung’s new flagship devices in the second half of this year. For eligible devices, the list should be quite long thanks to Samsung’s commitment to long-term software updates. Eligible devices must include most Galaxy devices with Android 11 and One UI 3.1. Devices also eligible for an update to Android 12 may not receive One UI 3.5. Samsung is likely to immediately update some of these devices to One UI 4.0, which is expected to be available a few months after version 3.5.
