Sony Xperia 1 III Vs Samsung S21 Ultra Camera? The Xperia 1 III is a phone with a unique camera system, it has the world’s first zoom lens with variable zoom levels. It really is a bit of technical magic: small elements in the lens move so you can switch between two zoom levels: 2.9x and 4.4x zoom. The Xperia also has the most advanced manual controls, but is that enough to beat one of the best camera phones, the Galaxy S21 Ultra?
Sony Xperia 1 III Vs Samsung S21 Ultra Camera
In terms of specs, the main camera on the Galaxy is a 108MP camera versus a 12MP Snapper on the Sony, so you still have that resolution advantage on the Galaxy and both have optical image stabilization, then you have 12MP ultra-wide cameras on it. both, but the one on the Galaxy is much wider at 13mm, and finally, you have the 12MP variable zoom camera on the Sony versus two separate zoom cameras on the Galaxy, one 3X-Zoom and another with 10X zoom.
The specs don’t tell the whole story, of course, so in the video above let’s take a deep dive with the cameras on these two phones and compare everything from daytime photo quality to nighttime shots to portrait mode B. video recording, video stabilization, and much more.
At the end of the day, we conclude that the Xperia 1 III has a lot to offer in terms of manual controls and switches to play with, but if all you want is a simple camera to click and release, it’s not really on par with the Galaxy S21 Ultra. The hyped variable zoom camera is nice to have, but photos look softer than the Galaxy, and during the day the Galaxy has better dynamic range, and when it comes to low-light shots, the Xperia falls flat on its nose.
Some people will argue that this phone isn’t about that, it’s about RAW photos and editing in the mail, and it’s true. But if Sony only makes this phone for that niche of enthusiasts, it will leave the casual user behind and we really hope the company will change its priorities in the future.
Sony Xperia 1 III beat S21 Ultra On Speed
Both devices have the Snapdragon 888 SoC, 12 GB LPDDR5 RAM, UFS 3.1 memory, and 120 Hz displays, so a benchmark comparison between the two makes sense. The Sony flagship opened the popular system and editing apps faster than the Samsung phone, and it was usually faster to open games too.
As far as benchmark apps go, the Sony Xperia 1 III was faster than the S21 Ultra in both Geekbench 5 and 3DMark Wild Life, giving the latter phone a handful of points on entertainment apps like Spotify and Netflix.
