Huawei P50 And P50 Pro: Release Date, Rumors What To Expect? Huawei’s transition from Android disruptor to Google outsider has changed a lot in the past year.
The 2020 flagship Huawei P40 launched without access to Google services, while Huawei went its own way. It was still a powerful device, and it raises expectations of Huawei’s next flagship, the P50.
Here’s everything we’ve heard so far.
Huawei P50 And P50 Pro Release Date And Price

Little has been said about when the Huawei P50 will be announced. The Huawei P40 was announced on March 26, 2020, following a pattern used by Huawei to launch devices at events shortly after the traditional Mobile World Congress in February.
While 2021 won’t be normal, we would still expect an annual update so we originally expected the Huawei P50, P50 Pro, and P50 Pro + to be announced sometime in March 2021. This is clearly no longer the case. However, it has recently been rumored that this has been delayed until May 2021.
Huawei P50 And P50 Pro Design And Build

The Huawei P50 Pro is starting to leak, including one from @OnLeaks, which has a good track record of early device disclosures. This shows a handset with a huge camera body on the back that is divided into two large circular openings. The number of cameras displayed depends on the model.
It looks like the Pro + version will feature up to five cameras, while the regular P50 will be a quad system.
The dimensions of the P50 Pro appear to be about the same as that of the P40 Pro, while these photos show a curved display with a minimal bezel and a single front camera.
The regular P50 is shown in renderings based on leaked circuit diagrams that show from behind a device very similar to the P50 Pro. It has the same great camera design. At the front, the regular model looks different and has a completely flat screen instead of the curved display on the other models.
Below the displays are stereo speakers and a fingerprint scanner.
It has been suggested that there will be three different versions of the phone: the P50, P50 Pro, and P50 Pro +. These will more or less replace the Lite, Normal, and Pro models of previous generations.
Huawei P50 And P50 Pro Screen
- P50 Pro: 6.6-inch screen, OLED, Quad HD +, 120 Hz, curved
- P50: 6.3 inches, OLED, Full HD +, 90 Hz, flat
The display of the Huawei P50 Pro will be 6.6 inches, while the normal P50 will be smaller by 6.3 inches.
Little has been said about the display, but we would expect it to be OLED and have refresh rates of 90 or 120 Hz. The P50 Pro’s resolution is likely to be Quad HD +, 2640 x 1200 pixels, 120 Hz, while the P50 will likely be Full HD +, 2340 x 1080 pixels, 90 Hz.
The P50 Pro has curved edges while the P50 is flat.
Samsung Display and LG Display are said to provide the OLED panels for the devices.
Huawei P50 And P50 Pro Hardware specifications

Very little has been said about the hardware equipment for the next generation Huawei device, but it is believed that the P50 Pro will use the Kirin 9000, which debuted in the Huawei Mate 40. This is a 5nm 5G SoC built before Apple and Qualcomm made their own announcements and it is typical for Huawei to roll this hardware from the Mate to the P series in this way. The standard P50 can use the Kirin 9000E, a slightly lower version of the hardware.
Other than these details, we do not have any details about the battery capacity, although it was suspected that Huawei’s 135 W charger can be charged at lightning speed.
Huawei P50 And P50 Pro Cameras

The camera is part of the long-awaited Huawei devices. The company beat major competitors like Apple and Samsung, outperformed the most, and made some of the biggest advancements in mobile photography in recent years.
Rumor has it that the P50 Pro could include a 1 inch Sony IMX800 image sensor, which may explain why the camera body on the back of this phone is so large. We do not currently know if this main camera will be included in all models.
The same source that suggested this 1-inch sensor went on to say there would be three models (take the P50, P50 Pro, and P50 Pro +), while also specifying which cameras they would get. The big difference seems to be that the P50 has a standard telephoto lens, while the Pro and Pro + have a periscope lens for better zoom over long distances. In addition, the P50 Pro + may have a time-of-flight sensor and an additional fifth camera.
Little is currently being done to secure these details, and each successive leak reveals a different arrangement of lenses in those big round housings on the back of the phone.
A single selfie camera is expected on all models.
Huawei P50 And P50 Pro Software
- No Google services
- Harmony OS in China
Since this is not your regular Android phone, it is worth saying a little more about software. We know that Huawei cannot offer Google services and instead promotes its own software solutions with Huawei Mobile Services on an Android core.
Huawei has been developing the Harmony operating system for some time now. It used to be used in some devices like smart TV before, but there was always talk that it would power future phones. Harmony OS is essentially a version of Android anyway, so we wouldn’t expect a huge change in EMUI that we’ve seen on Huawei devices in the past.
At the launch of the Huawei Mate X2, the company announced that HarmonyOS would be offered as an upgrade for devices from April, which may indicate that the P50 will be launched with HarmonyOS, or at least with the option of HarmonyOS.
There is still a chance that Google’s services will return if Huawei’s reputation changes in the US. However, we don’t think this will happen.
