How to Save Money on Your Calls While You Travel

How to Save Money on Your Calls While You Travel
Imagine this scenario: you just enjoy a wonderful vacation abroad. Now you’re home and it’s time to get back to normal life … You get your next phone bill and you’re shocked … $ 100 in your account … You do not even remember talking so much … or being on the Web so much … but the account is here and will have to be paid. You begin to wonder if this trip was worth it … If this sounds familiar to you, I have great news – there are many ways to save money on your calls when you are abroad and prevent you from earning a very high phone. accounts on your return.

1) PLAN AHEAD

If you know you will be traveling shortly, start planning it. Many call providers have special plans for use overseas. If your provider does – you may want to use it. Usually, they offer a supplement for a small fee per day.
If you are the type of person who spends a lot of time on your phone, it is probably worth going for this add-on to your regular plan. Just remember to stop it when you return, you do not want to pay this extra fee forever.
If your provider does not have an international add-on or you do not want to use it, there are still many other options to call your hometown while you are abroad at a cheaper rate.
Consider buying a local SIM when you are abroad. This is an excellent solution if you travel to the same place frequently or you will be staying in the same place for a long time.
When you buy a local SIM card in the place you are visiting, you usually pay for a package of minutes and the price will probably work much cheaper than using your regular phone plan and you do not have to pay to travel (in many countries ).
If you have a locked phone, you can not use an external SIM card without first unlocking your phone.
You can also buy a local calling card that you can use to call from hotel phones, public telephones … Phone cards are not so popular this day but if you need a solution for cheap international calls, they are a good option. Here too you have the advantage of no roaming charges.

2) WHEN YOU ARE OUTDOOR

When you need to make a call, think about what you mean beforehand. This will generally make your connection shorter and will also prevent you from forgetting to say something and then need to call again.
Text messages are cheaper than calls, so sometimes it may be worth sending a text message instead of calling if it is just a small message that you need to deliver. Remember that text messages are free to receive while calls are not. If someone needs to tell you something, ask them to send you a text message instead of calling.
Be careful, though, that a text conversation will probably cost the same price as a phone call.
Even if you do not call abroad, you have to pay for incoming calls – so you have to pay when people call you and also some providers pay if someone sends you a message while abroad (depending on the country you are in).
You can eliminate at least one of these problems by deciding – do you want people to contact you abroad or do you want to enjoy your vacation in peace without being bothered by anyone calling?
If you do not want to talk to anyone, divert all your calls to voice mail. This way, you will not be charged for roaming. You may have to pay if someone leaves a message for you though.
If you want to stay in touch with people and answer calls, turn off voicemail. This will eliminate all charges by voice mail (if applicable) and when your phone rings, you can see who is calling and decide whether or not to answer. If you answer, you will need to pay the roaming fee, and if you do not answer, there will be no charge.
Do not listen to voice mail when outside, unless necessary. Calls to voice mail are charged at the same rate as regular calls so you can end up paying a lot of money just by listening to your voice mail.

3) DATA AND WIFI

For many people, high phone bills when they are abroad, in fact, do not come to talk much on the phone, but rather the high use of data. When abroad, your provider will charge a high fee per megabyte used.
If you need to use the internet then, by all means, use free Wi-Fi when possible, there are many places where you can get free Wi-Fi. Some hotels offer internet for a small fee but this will probably still be cheaper than using mobile data. Just to ensure that your phone does not automatically change data, it is best to turn off your data for the duration of your stay.
If you are using your GPS phone and need to download maps, do so before your trip or when you have WiFi. Many navigation programs allow you to download the map beforehand and once downloaded, there is no need for the internet for navigation itself.

4) INTERNET CALLING

Many people these days are turning to internet calls when they are overseas as it offers many benefits. Internet calls are virtually free if the two end users are on the same network and if there is WiFi. If there is no WiFi, you need to count the cost of the data. If both users are not on the same network, there is a small fee to use VoIP, but it is still a lot cheaper than using your regular phone plan.
So obviously the price is an important factor why people use VoIP when they are abroad. But also, VoIP is not connected to a physical location so it can be taken anywhere. Think of business people who want to keep the same number while traveling. With a commercial phone, this would be impossible, but with VoIP, people can call anywhere if you have your cell phone / PC with you and there is no roaming charge.
Also, many VoIP service providers offer features that are not offered with standard telephone plans. This can include video calls, sending locations, group chats, and more
There are different types of internet calls:
  • Phone for Phone Calls – Using regular phones, VoIP adapters are used to connect phones to the Internet. If both end users are on the same network – the call will be free. If they are on different networks – there will be a small fee.
Calls can also be made using IP phones instead of VoIP adapters to make the calls.
  • PC to PC calls – using an application to make calls between PCs.
If the person you are calling has the same application on their PC – the call will be free. If the person you are calling does not have this app, there will be a small charge.
  • PC for phone calls – make calls from your PC to a phone.
If you are calling the phone on the same network, the call will be free. If the phone is not on the same network, there will be a small charge.
  • Mobile for mobile calls – using an application to place calls between mobile phones.
If the person you are calling has the same application on their PC – the call will be free. If the person you are calling does not have this app, there will be a small charge.
Many applications also allow you to connect to mobile devices for PCs and PCs for mobile devices.
Whatever type of call you use abroad, if you plan a little before your trip you will definitely save a lot of money in the end
