Galaxy A22 vs Galaxy A32: The Battle Of The 90hz Budget Phones

Samsung enriches its budget smartphone portfolio with the addition of the Galaxy A22. Announced earlier today, the Galaxy A22 4G/LTE looks like a cheaper alternative to the Galaxy A32, although in true Samsung style, the two devices eventually shared some hardware components.

Both smartphones are powered by the same chipset and have a screen with a high refresh rate of 90 Hz, at least as long as they are the 4G variants, which we will see in more detail below.

The Galaxy A32 remains technically superior and most of us would probably agree that it looks better than the Galaxy A22. This was to be expected given their marketplaces, but how different and/or similar are they? Let’s find out.

Galaxy A22 vs Galaxy A32: Screen

As mentioned above, both phones have 90Hz displays, which means they can display smoother animations in the UI and supporting apps.

The Galaxy A22 and A32 have 6.4-inch Super AMOLED screens and both feature an Infinity-U notch.

Finally, the Galaxy A32 benefits from a higher quality AMOLED panel in the sense that it has a higher resolution and pixel density. It has a pixel count of 2400 x 1080 as opposed to 1600 x 720.

Galaxy A22 vs Galaxy A32: Cameras

Samsung’s latest budget smartphone has four cameras on the back, including a 48MP main sensor with OIS. In contrast, the Galaxy A32 has a 64 MP main sensor with PDAF that does not have OIS. In theory, this should give the Galaxy A22 an advantage when taking photos in low light and when recording videos on the go.

The phones feature 8MP ultra-wide cameras with f/2.2 aperture, plus macro and depth sensors. The Galaxy A32 has a 5MP depth of high-resolution and macro shooters, while the Galaxy A22 is limited to 2MP.

As for selfies, the Galaxy A22 has a 13 MP drive, while the Galaxy A32 benefits from a 20 MP sensor.

Galaxy A22 vs Galaxy A32: Design

Each phone has a distinctive camera body design and both feature plastic frames with a metal finish. The Galaxy A22 has a traditional camera overhang, while the Galaxy A32 has individual cutouts in the rear panel for each camera.

The Galaxy A22 comes in four colors, black, mint, violet, and white, and the Galaxy A32 is available in black, blue, violet, and white. Both phones measure and weigh about the same.

The Galaxy A22 has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, while the Galaxy A32 hides it under the display.

Galaxy A22 vs Galaxy A32: Hardware and Software

For better or worse, neither the Galaxy A22 nor the Galaxy A32 comes with an Exynos chipset. Instead, Samsung opted for a solution developed by MediaTek, namely the Helio G80 SoC.

It was manufactured in a 12 nm process. It has two Cortex-A75 CPU cores clocked at 2.0GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores running at 1.8GHz. The CPU works together with a Mali-G52 MC2 graphics chip.

The Galaxy A32 has more RAM options of 4GB, 6GB, and 8GB, while the Galaxy A22 does not have the 8GB option (although it is available for the 5G variant).

Other similarities between the two phones include a 5000mAh battery with 15W fast charging, Bluetooth 5, NFC, a USB-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. They also come with Android 11 and One UI 3.1.

Galaxy A22 vs Galaxy A32: Conclusion

At the time of writing, Samsung has not disclosed pricing information for the Galaxy A22, but it will be cheaper than the Galaxy A32. The latter phone is superior, but they are different enough to coexist, meaning the price difference will make all the difference. The Galaxy A22 may sound like a decent, cheap phone in a vacuum, but that doesn’t mean much in the real world if it’s not cheap enough to justify leaving out the Galaxy A32.
