The Galaxy Z Fold 3 brings many significant upgrades over the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and even more than the Galaxy Fold. Samsung has even gone so far as to make its new foldable waterproof device to the same standard as its flagship non-foldable devices, and the Z Fold 3 is also the company’s first phone with an under-display camera.
Of course, Samsung has also focused on improving the little things and one of them is the SIM card features of the Galaxy Z Fold 3. Unlike the first two Galaxy Z Fold devices, the Z Fold 3 has two physical SIM card slots instead of and also via a built-in SIM card (eSIM).
Technically, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 lets you use three different carriers, but only two can be active at a time. That means you can have either the second physical SIM slot or the eSIM active, but you can switch between them right away. This is an excellent feature for people who have multiple phone numbers, which is common in markets like India, although three phone numbers can be a challenge for most people.
Unfortunately, there’s still no support for expandable storage, and since it’s not even available in the Galaxy S21 range, there’s virtually no chance Samsung’s foldable phones will ever get it. Fortunately, you can get the Galaxy Z Fold 3 with 256 GB and 512 GB (both with 12 GB RAM) storage options.
And if you’re wondering what the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is, you still only get dual SIM functionality – a physical SIM slot and an eSIM, although we can hope that changes next year.
Update: The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 only have one physical SIM card slot and do not have eSIM support in the US. eSIM hardware is present in all of Samsung’s new flagships, so it may be enabled by mobile carriers at a later date, but by default, the Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 only support a single SIM card in the United States.
