After a few weeks of testing and using the A7 Lite, I can confidently tell you that this is certainly not the best tablet on the market. But it’s a pretty handy little device that deserves your attention if you need a lot of money for a powerful Android tablet.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite on Amazon for $129
The Galaxy Tab A7 Lite is on sale through third-party retailers and Samsung’s website. The Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite price starts at $159, although you can often find it cheaper.
In return, you get a lightweight Android tablet with an 8-inch MediaTek MT8768T chip, 4GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage, although you can pay an extra $40 to upgrade to 64GB. Alternatively, you can use a tablet MicroSD card reader to insert up to 1TB of additional storage. It is also possible to purchase a model with 4G LTE support (via Verizon or AT&T) for an additional $40.
The device we reviewed is Wi-Fi only and came with 64GB of storage, meaning it retails for $200. But at the time of publication, Samsung will be selling a lot on its website, bringing the price down to $40, which is an incredible value.
Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite Review: Design
As the name suggests, the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite, released in 2020, is lighter and smaller. It measures 8.37 x 4.91 x 0.31 inches and weighs just 0.81 pounds. This means it’s lighter and more compact than almost any tablet on the market. A notable exception is Apple’s iPad mini, which is still slightly smaller and lighter (8 x 5.3 x 0.24 inches and 0.66 pounds) than the Tab A7 Lite.
Of course, the iPad mini still relies on Apple’s Lightning port for charging, while the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite uses the more common USB-C port instead – although rumors suggest Apple will replace it with an updated one at the end of 2021. iPad mini USB-C.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite Review: Screen
The Tab A7 Lite’s 8.7-inch 1340 x 800-pixel screen looks pretty good in most situations, although in bright light I stumbled upon the reflection more often than I wanted to.
The colors look nice and bright and bright reds and yellows were featured in movies like The Tomorrow War and Knives Out. However, in dark or fast-moving scenes, blurring and contamination of the details were noticeable. This may have to do with the relatively low pixel density of the Tab A7 Lite. At about 179 ppi, it’s not as sharp as the Fire HD 10 2021 (224), Galaxy Tab A7 (224), or iPad 2020 (264 ppi).
Based on our colorimeter tests, the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite can display 81.8% of the sRGB color gamut. It’s 100% ideal, a little lacking, and a little less bright than the iPad 2020 (97%) or Galaxy Tab A7 (101.7%).
The screen gets bright enough to use in daylight, but it’s not the brightest tablet you can buy. In our tests, the Tab A7 Lite had a maximum screen brightness of 315 nits, which is good enough, but not as bright as the Galaxy Tab A7 (329.3 nits) or iPad 2020 (484 nits).
These results are in line with the budget-friendly asking price of the Tab A7 Lite and help explain why it can sometimes be difficult to shoot dark scenes or use your tablet in bright light. However, the screen works well as an input device. I had no issues touching and browsing Android, and motion control worked well.
Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite Review: Sound
The Galaxy Tab A7 Lite has two speaker grilles, one at the top right and one at the bottom left. Together they provide decent sound, and their location on the edges makes it easy to hear what’s going on when you’re on your tablet.
Listening to some of my favorite A7 Lite playlists, I was pleasantly surprised at how well this little tablet does at producing clear and accurate sound. Of course, you don’t know bass tones in your stomach, but vocals, synthesizers, and other high tones sound nice and clear. You can also turn your songs up pretty loud; even at three-quarters of the volume, I could clearly see the vocals and drum patterns playing on the A7 Lite from across the one-bedroom apartment. However, if you play it at maximum volume, you may notice some distortion, as I did with songs like The Who’s Baba O’Riley and Elton John’s Rocket Man.
To check all the features of the A7 speakers, you need to go to the Settings menu, tap “Sound quality and effects” and turn on “Dolby Atmos”. With this device, you can make the sound of your tablet better and more immersive, especially when mixed for Dolby Atmos. While there isn’t much Dolby Atmos content available to Android users yet, turning this device on (in my experience) makes the sound of most music and movies a bit deeper and more perfect.
Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite Review: Performance
The MediaTek MT8768T chip that powers the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite isn’t exactly a powerhouse, but the 4GB of RAM helps to make switching between applications and playing games enjoyable and fast.
But be prepared to take a few hits and slow down if you’re opening many apps at once or trying to play more demanding Android games. When I opened 15 tabs in Chrome and tried to quickly switch between them, I regularly saw a bit of lag. I was able to play games like Asphalt 9 and Call of Duty Mobile on Tab A7 Lite quite well, but it was often difficult to see a smooth frame rate when the screen was occupied in both games, and scenes that often saw new content on Call of Promoting Duty Mobile was more like slideshows.
In short, using the Tab A7 Lite for anything other than web browsing and media viewing is often a bad experience and backed up by our lab testing. The Galaxy Tab A7 Lite earned 907 points in a multi-core Geenekch 5 benchmark, which we use to measure the tablet’s overall performance. It’s a bad score it leaves on tablets like the 2021 Amazon Fire HD 10 (969), Microsoft Surface Go 2 (1563), and iPad 2020 (2685).
Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite Review: Battery Life
The battery of the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite contains enough power to go to the country without a charger or to lie on the couch for a few nights. In our battery test, which involved surfing the web over Wi-Fi at 150 nits of brightness, the tiny tablet lasted 10 hours and 7 minutes.
It’s good enough for everyday use, but still shy of larger tablets like the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 (13:13), Amazon Fire HD 10 (13:14), or iPad 2020 (12:57). The Tab A7 Lite doesn’t charge very fast either: I plugged it into an 8% battery and after 90 minutes of charging it was up to 55%, which is good enough for everyday use, but not great if you need it, shoot on it up with juice.

The 2MP front camera and 8MP rear camera on the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite are good enough to get you through video calls and the occasional shoot without too much embarrassment, but in my experience, they let a lot out. to be desired. The photos I took with the front camera looked washed out and they struggled to adjust to the changes in the ambient light.

The Tab A7 Lite selfie camera isn’t great for capturing fine details or the sin of a man who’s barely left his apartment all year.
Taking pictures with the rear camera gave better results, but the colors still seem muted, and fine details like the wood grain and reflection were almost impossible to capture. In short, the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite camera range is good enough for everyday use, but if you come up with a relatively new smartphone model, it will almost certainly deliver higher-quality photos.
One nice thing can be said about the Tab A7 Lite camera setup, though: the front camera supports face-detection login, a security feature that most tablets under $500 (iPads included) don’t offer. Setting up face detection on the Tab A7 Lite was a painless experience for me, although I had a lot of trouble wearing glasses for my reliable detection.

If you enjoy valuing Android stock, you will appreciate the experience of using the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite as Samsung has limited its sending too many additional messages.
When configured, it comes pre-installed with Samsung Apps Son, but otherwise, it’s a relatively pure Android experience. This means that unlike Amazon Fire tablets and their Android-based Fire OS, you have full access to the Google Play Store and its hundreds of thousands of apps and games.

Samsung introduced the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite as a small, handy Android tablet that’s easy on your wallet, and in my experience, that’s exactly what you’re buying.
You’ve probably noticed the phrase “good enough” a few times when reading this review, and for good reason: if you’re looking for a compact Android tablet to browse the web, watch videos or play games play, then the A7 Lite is good enough to meet your needs.
Just don’t expect to be impressed with the Samsung galaxy tab a7 lite review performance, screen quality, or battery life.
