Is the Samsung S22 Ultra Waterproof?
Is the Samsung S22 Ultra waterproof? Samsung has tried to please everyone with the Galaxy S22 series, but has waterproofing cut one of the many features included? More than any other device, smartphones accompany them almost everywhere their owner goes.
As convenient as this smartphone is, it also means that people’s smartphones are exposed to more harmful conditions than other devices. You probably don’t have to worry about your gaming PC getting stuck in the rain, but with a phone, that’s a very real worry. That’s the case with the Galaxy S22 range. Samsung has been equipping its phones with water-resistant protection for years, and the S22 series is no different. The Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra all have an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. That doesn’t mean the phones are “waterproof,” but they are water-resistant and should be more than durable for the vast majority of users.
Is the Samsung S22 Ultra waterproof?
Like its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S22 – as well as the Plus and Ultra models – is water and dust resistant (IP68), meaning it will survive prolonged immersion in water as well as splashes in the shower or outside from the faucet or hose.
However, water resistance is NOT the same as waterproof; No phone is truly waterproof. If you leave your phone in a body of water, it will eventually find its way in, and when that happens the phone’s internal circuitry and electronics will get fried.
However, numerous tests have shown that an iPhone or Samsung Galaxy phone can survive underwater for weeks. When the Galaxy S20 was launched, a man bought one and threw it in a goldfish bowl full of water. He stayed there for weeks, streaming the entire test live on YouTube.
No company, Apple or Samsung for example, will ever claim that their phones are fully waterproof. And the reason for that is simple: people would leave their phones in a pond for months and then complain that they broke if Apple or Samsung said they were fully waterproof.
In this respect, it is more a question of liability. Apple and Samsung don’t want to be held responsible for phones that break due to water damage, so they make them as waterproof as possible, get them certified with an IP rating, typically IP68, and then advise users to exercise caution when using them to let their phones in and around the world.
However, the bottom line here is simple: the Samsung Galaxy S22 is waterproof. It will survive and submerge in the ocean, your pool, and your tub. You can swim it, take it in the shower, and you shouldn’t encounter any problems. Should you do this? Probably not; It’s always best to exercise caution when using electronics near water.

The Samsung Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus, and Galaxy S22 Ultra all have an official IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. This shouldn’t come as a surprise as all of the Galaxy S21 series phones from last year also had IP68 dust and water resistance ratings. However, it should be noted that the new Galaxy S22 series devices are only water-resistant, not waterproof. That’s what it means.
What does IP68 protection mean for the Galaxy S22 Ultra?
IP rating, in case you don’t know, stands for Ingress Protection. To put it in layman’s terms, IP ratings tell you how well each device is preventing dust and water from entering it. The third character (or the first number after the I and P characters) indicates how well the device protects against small solid particles such as dust, sand, and more. It has a maximum rating of 6, with 0 being no protection at all and 6 being completely dustproof. In some cases, you’ll also see X’s here, which essentially means the device hasn’t been tested on it yet.
Likewise, the last number indicates liquid or water resistance. This has a maximum rating of 8, which means the device can be submerged in water at a depth of 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. It is safe to say that IP68 is the highest IP rating for dust and water resistance. It also means that the new Samsung Galaxy S22 series devices all have the best IP rating on the market.
On the other hand, being waterproof means that these phones are sealed and impervious to water. So they are not fully waterproof, only water-resistant. You can go swimming with your new Galaxy S22 series phone or even go underwater up to 1.5 meters deep, but we do not recommend submerging it in salt water or ionized water. So don’t take it to the beach for swimming.
