- You must ensure your airtime balance (on the mobile phone doing the sharing) can cater for the cost of data bundle being purchased.
- Pay for a data share bundle by sending the keyword or dialling the USSD string that corresponds to the plan you wish to purchase (as in table above).

Can I share data sizes multiple times with the same payee?
Yes, especially when the size of the data you want to share is more than 5 GB. For example, if you want to share data larger than 10 GB, you can share 5 GB twice, or 2 GB five times, or 1 GB ten times. For example, if you want to share 10 GB of data with the payee via phone number 08031234567 and MTN PIN ‘1234’, send SMEE 08031234567 5000 1234 twice to effectively share 10 GB.
Is there a limit to the number of times I can share data?
Yes. See the table above for the maximum number of times data can be shared per package.
Can I share data in sizes larger than 1 GB?
Yes, the sponsor can share data in the following data sizes; 500 MB 1 GB, 2 GB, 3 GB, 5 GB, or 10 GB.
If the beneficiary receives multiple data from the same sponsor, will it pile up?
Yes. Data is collected and assumes the expiration date of the most recent data package. However, unused data will be transferred for 7 days after the shared data expires.
When does beneficiary data expire?
When a data-sharing sponsor successfully shares a portion of its data package with a data-sharing recipient, the data will expire in 30 days; regardless of the validity of the sponsor’s main package.
Does the payee phone number need to be an MTN phone number to use the service?
Yes, the beneficiary phone number must be an MTN phone number in any class of service.
How do I check my data balance?
You simply send DATABALANCE to 131 or dial *461*2*3#
How do beneficiaries check their data balance?
The payee verifies its balance by sending SHAREBALANCE to 131 or by dialing *461# and following the prompt.
