Samsung’s annual Galaxy Unpacked event is just around the corner, with the official date slated for August 11 at 10 a.m. Eastern Time. Samsung fans and those interested in the evolution of smartphones should definitely tune in if the rumors are true.
From the trailer video Samsung released, the theme of the event seems to be “is ‘good’ good enough?” The video and his story points to Samsung planning a massive change in its design priorities that in all likelihood points to folding phones as the future, at least for Samsung.
Additionally Rumors of Samsung events flagged by ZDNet do not explicitly validate claims that folding devices will take center stage, but they give the possibility a lot of legitimacy. In an example, Twitter user @evleaks (who was right in his alleged leak that the event was set to take place on August 11) also shared an animated image reported as one of the new folding devices Samsung would announce this at the event.
Evleaks also shared images of additional devices, bringing the number of potential new devices to five: a new Galaxy Z Flip, Galaxy Z Fold, Galaxy Watch 4, Galaxy Buds 2 and possibly an S21 version of the Galaxy Fan Edition (FE)- budget device.
As usual, these rumors are rumors until the event actually takes place. Take a look around the event page on Samsung’s website and you’ll get even more implied confirmation that foldable phones are the future for Samsung, at least for this event.
based on a July 27 blog post Written by Samsung Mobile president TM Roh, the Galaxy Note line won’t get a new device at the August 11 event, and it’s possible that its main feature, the built-in S Pen stylus, will come to new Samsung devices. Roh did say that an S Pen for Samsung’s foldable devices will premiere at the event, which according to ZDNet’s Jason Cipriani could mean the Note line will end if Samsung shifts focus.
