Xiaomi Says It Can Now Fully Charge A Phone In Eight Minutes At 200W

Xiaomi, a global company that makes quality products at fair prices, has demonstrated its brand new demo of fast charging technology and set new world records for both wired and wireless charging speeds.

With the newly improved Mi 11 Pro with a 4,000mAh battery, the phone can be fully charged in 8 minutes via a wired 200W HyperCharge system or in 15 minutes with 120W wireless charging, according to the company.

The Verge reported that charging speeds are a common battleground for Chinese smartphone companies, who often post demonstrations of breakthroughs that may or may not appear in finished products.

Two years ago, for example, Xiaomi announced a 100W system that could charge a 4,000mAh battery in 17 minutes, while last year’s Mi 10 Ultra was full to 120W in 23 minutes – though it had a larger 4,500mAh battery.

Oppo is another leader in this field, whose VOOC technology is the foundation of the OnePlus Dash and Warp fast charging systems. Last year it demonstrated a 125W system with 4,000mAh in 20 minutes, although that was more than a year after Xiaomi’s supposedly faster 100W announcement and charging the excellent current flagship Find X3 Pro at “only” 65W.

Progress is always welcome, and the idea of ​​being able to fully charge a phone in eight minutes is certainly appealing. However, it is worth noting that these fast charging systems always require their own chargers and cables, so they are mainly used at home rather than in emergencies where they can be most useful. Ultimately, any phone’s ability to get through the day alone will be the most important factor for a while.
