Xiaomi Launched Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G – Cheapest 5G Phone?

Xiaomi’s Redmi Note series is arguably the most successful family of devices in the brand’s portfolio, consistently delivering a lot of performance for little money. We haven’t seen any Redmi Note phones with 5G yet, but that changes today.

The company introduced two 5G-compatible phones in the Redmi Note series, namely Redmi Note 9 Pro and Redmi Note 9. These phones are not confused with 4 G-compatible Redmi Note 9 and Note 9 Pro released earlier this year with mobile phones. This is one of the many differences between the two families.

Redmi Note 9 Pro is raising the stakes on the camera.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro is the most capable device announced by the Xiaomi sub-brand today, with a Snapdragon 750G processor, 6GB to 8GB 128GB RAM to 256GB expandable UFS 2.2 storage. Xiaomi also promises a liquid cooling system, so performance should be maintained over time.

You also get a 6.67-inch 120Hz LCD (with adaptive frame rate support), while a 4820 mAh battery keeps the lights on. Fortunately, the 33W wired charging means it can be charged from zero percent in a respectable 58 minutes.

The main selling point is arguably the main 108MP camera as the phone uses Samsung’s new Isocell HM2 camera sensor (1 / 1.52-inch, 0.7-micron pixels). This sensor has smaller pixels than previous 108MP sensors, but Xiaomi relies on nano binning technology, which combines data from nine adjacent pixels into one. This means that you will get images that are equivalent to a 12-megapixel 2.1-micron camera.

You can still shoot 108MP full-resolution images. However, Xiaomi notes that the sensor’s dual native ISO technology combined with night mode intelligence means you can expect great results in low light.

The rest of the rear camera will look familiar to Redmi Note owners, consisting of an 8MP ultra-wide sensor and 2MP sensors for depth and macro modes.

Other notable features of the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G are a 3.5mm port, IP53 splash resistance, stereo speakers, side fingerprint scanner, IR blaster, and NFC.

A Cheap 5G Experience

The Redmi Note 9 5G is a step back from the Pro variant, unsurprisingly. But there’s nothing to scoff at in terms of base specs as it has a Dimensity 800U processor, 6GB to 8GB of RAM, and 128GB to 256GB of expandable storage. This phone even has 5G + 5G dual SIM support and switches between 5G networks based on the signal quality. The Pro variant lacks 5G + 5G capabilities.

The rest of the phone is on par when it comes to Redmi Note devices, with a 6.53-inch FHD + LCD and a 5000 mAh battery with 18W wired charging. You also get a camera on the back, triple (48 MP main camera, 8 MP ultra-wide-angle, 2 MP macro), an infrared emitter, and stereo speakers.

These weren’t the only phones Redmi announced at the event as the brand also announced the Redmi Note 9 4G. No, this is not the Redmi Note 9 device first launched months ago, but rather a renamed version of the Poco M3 with a custom design as well (or is it the other way around?). Check it out below.

Otherwise, the rest of the spec sheet is largely identical to Poco’s new release. That means a Snapdragon 662 chipset, a 6.53-inch FHD + LCD panel, 4GB to 8GB of RAM, 128GB of expandable storage, and a huge 6,000mAh battery.

Other standout specs include a triple rear camera (48-megapixel main camera, 2-megapixel macro, 2-megapixel depth), IP52 splash coating, infrared emitter, dual stereo speakers, and a side fingerprint scanner.
